Here's a $100k loss at Atria.  Well, that place has been going downhill ever since the condo conversion days.

The co-owner said about his partner:
“His background with a major financial institution allows [owner] to bring tremendous knowledge and experience in technologies....."

It's interesting how "tremendous" financial knowledge is causing one to lose $100k on a condo purchase.

I liked the layout of the three bedroom units and the location in town, but they are very inferior in quality. If it wasn't for its position, it would get my vote as worst condo community in Downtown. I reserve that vote, however, for Palermo. It has an on-ramp on the north side where cars shine lights directly into units, and two busy streets leading on and off the 5 freewat on the east and west. Across the road on First is a car repair garage that blasts a bell and loudspeaker all day. On the south side is a transient hotel and the area is full of the under-privileged. The building itself is wood and stucco. Built at the very end of the boom as a condo conversion, people paid top dollar to live in this giant shed.

I so very much agree.  Here is a trifecta of buyers of one such unit.

I feel bad for people that bought here. Four years ago when I first moved to San Diego, I didn't even want to move into this place when it was an apartment complex - I took the tour, but didn't think it was worth $1,500 a month (or whatever it was) when there was no pool, no view, etc. I chose a big complex across the street instead. Then, people caved into peer pressure, bought into the bubble, and put 5 and 6 hundred thousand on condos there. What a shame.

And some people said that the Marina District is immune from price drops.

#417.

Not only are these sellers "throwing away" 3 years of carrying costs, but they'll have to bring cash to the table.

I had a friend who rented a ground level unit at Atria and hated the layout (it felt cramped with all the choppy corners/rooms).

Doesn't look like people are champing at the bit to buy in the Marina District.
