How about a running tally of monster price drops? In order to qualify a property has to have dropped more than 50% from peak.

----
Look at this monster loss.

$483,333 down to $104,900 78% Drop.

50% drops from the peak in San Diego county are rare for single-family homes. How about 40% drops for single-family homes?

52% drop from previous sale at El Cortez. 60%+ if you consider that the peak was even higher.

64% drop at El Cortez and the place has not even sold yet.

Previous sale 11/20/2006 $710,000
Current list: $259,900

$450,100 loss of value + holding costs + transaction costs = $1/2 million in value gone on a modest condo that's turning out to be an albatross around somebody's neck

This may not be "Monster" but for a nice part of Point Loma (you know, along the COAST), I'd like to mention it. 873 Loma Valley Pl, almost 30% hit. Below 2002 price.

Short sale, but nearly 50% off 2003 sale price. Could just be advertising, but still a monster of a loss.

Pato,
If that place sells for $99K, the whole complex will be going 'postal.'
