This is related to real estate in that Internet access is now a utility just like telephone, water, sewer, gas and electricity. Few of us would want to live anywhere long-term without broadband Internet access.

I found that you can easily bridge Wifi internet using a mod router (under $50).

That's perfectly legal. Wifi signal is unregulated and unlicensed, therefore, signal that comes into your space belongs to you. You may do as you wish.

If, as I do, you live in an area where Wifi signals are plentiful, you may bridge using your own router.

If you are tech savvy, investigate the following website that shows you how to configure your router for free Wifi access in your own local area network (LAN).

BTW, you can buy routers already flashed on ebay.
I recommend the Linksys WRT54G (search linksys dd-wrt).

When using a wi-fi enable mobile phone, can you use any wi-fi signal or do you need to be a customer of each signal in order to be able to talk over wi-fi, e.g. McDonald's, Starbucks, etc.

cbr600f4i2, you can use any open wifi signal anywhere, if not password protected, or if you know the user and password.

At starbucks and mcdonalds you need to be a customer of AT&T's or pay for the service. Starbucks also gives you free access if you register for their rewards card.

On the iPhone you can download the free Easy Wi-fi app from at Apple App Store. I use a "cracked" iphone 3G w/ 3.0 software myself.

ATT Wireless customers also get free wifi at starbucks, mcdonalds and other places.

Why closing your wi-fi connection to hijackers is very, very smart. Imagine the knock at your door when the police come a-calling

Wireless security for home networks is in the spotlight following an unusual arrest in Canada, where a man stands accused of downloading child pornography over a hijacked Wi-Fi connection.

Lived and worked in the woods without hi-speed internet hook-up. when I needed to send very large drawing files I would drive to town and get connected in the parking lot of a local motel. While driving driving I-5 from TJ to BC for 3 years, I was able to get a signal from the parking lot of about 8 out of 10 motels.

This is a good product for sharing WiFi. I recommended it to a friend who set it up.
