Does anybobody know if this project is still going forward? Last I heard the soil was found to be "still" contaminated and the developer is backing out of the deal. (From developer's website): Metro Center is a revolutionary vertical retail project in downtown San Diego consisting of approximately 475,000 square feet of large format multi-level retail space located just blocks from Petco Park. Situated on approximately 5 acres, the project is located in the burgeoning East Village submarket of downtown San Diego and is bounded by National Avenue, Commercial Street, Newton Avenue, and 16th Street. Metro Center will provide prospective tenants with an excellent opportunity to capitalize on the tremendous growth that downtown San Diego is experiencing and will offer a much needed shopping alternative to downtown’s 30,000 residents, the 165,000 trade area residents and the 75,000 strong daily workforce. Over 100 downtown projects are currently planned or under construction in the area, including office (634,000 s.f.), hotel (4,156 rooms), condominium (9,061 units), and apartment (2,491 units) developments. |
