Seriously. It will be the highlight of my day. Then, if you get angry, I will retaliate by picking up the poo and smoosh it in your face. Then, as you stand there in bewilderment, my dog will pee on your leg. 3900 5th Ave Feel free to bring coriander and lemon grass. That's what the suburbs or the country are for. If you limit people in the city, you end up with the suburbs. You got what you want already. Go find it in the suburbs. |

Downtown Lover,
WELL SAID! I am always amazed when people want to turn the city into the suburbs. If you like that type of thing there are suburbs everywhere. The city cannot be dense enough as far as I am concerned. |

I'm starting to notice more and more dog droppings on sidewalks. Is this one bad person doing this or is there a trend developing where people care less about the city?
What are the penalties for not cleaning after your dog? |

I say if you don't like dogs and everything that comes with it, move to the 'burbs. Ever walked around downtown Chicago, NYC, SF? You can't go a few blocks without seeing canines prancing about. It's part of dense downtown living and is now part of downtown San Diego for good. I do agree stricter enforcement is needed on the poop patrol, I've seen lots of dookies lately when I walk my dog. |

Shouldn't the dogs live in the suburbs where they belong? Dogs need plenty of dirt to poop and pee on. How is peeing and pooping on the concrete and asphalt streets clean and healthy? |

No, the solution really is for people to clean up after their dogs. You cannot banish dogs from the city just because of some irresponsible owners. There are plenty of responsible owners out there. I would, however, vote for a law which makes irresponsible dog owners wear the poop on a rope around their neck. Or perhaps when one is busted, he has to clean up all the poop on a city block. Alternatively you can team up with your neighbors, each chip in, say, $5, then give the load of money to some homeless dude for picking up the poo on the block. Or you can, say, give him $5 for every pound of poop he brings in. These ideas are free, no need to thank me. |

Poop is one thing but what about the pee? Who will wash the sidewalks?
Did you think about health? Like fleas and bacteria?
Did you go to Petco park? There's dog poop and pee every where so children can't play there. Adults can't even sit on the concrete benches because dogs pee there. DISGUSTING!!!! I would much rather have families move downtown (to make it more interesting and vibrant). People with pooches can move to the suburbs. Ban them. If we can ban alcohol on the beaches because of a few irresponsible drinkers, then we can surely ban dogs in the city.
Perhaps we should have $1200/year dog tax so that the city can hire crews to clean after the animals.

I vote we ban Jon from downtown. He is the type that looks at the wonderful things in life and finds the occasional negative about it, and will complain to everyone about it as if it's always negative. He's the type that will complaint about someting until his face turns red and someone throws poop in it. Once he finally stops complaining he'll move on to the next complaint topic until he gets all poo poo faced again. Someone needs to throw poop in his face right now. |

I've seen ads for the device that emits a signal to quiet barking dogs down. Does these actually work or are they a gimmick? I does seem like some people will let their dog bark constantly. I have a neighbor that does that.
I also saw a story recently about a similar device that only kids could hear, it was used to stop loitering. I actually thought it was a joke but appears to be real. |

| the "signal" is a mild electric shock transmitted through a device on the collar. it trains your dog NOT to be a watch dog and guard your home. i can understand in the city with close quarters, but dogs usually don't bark like crazy all day unless they are left alone - they are very social and develop bad habits when ignored while, for example, the owner is at work all day. again, bad owners, not animals. people buy em because they are all fluffy and cute, but forget they actually require care (again, like cleaning up after them!). |

| Obviously, this thread will continue to be posted by dog haters. Give up. You'll never win. Americans love dogs. According to one source, 79% of Americans own dogs. If you don't like it, move to another country. |

Couple thoughts,
I've posted on this thread and I don't *hate* dogs. I'd love to get one but since I live in a condo I don't think it's good for the dog, myself or my neighbors.
79% ownership seems like a high number and isn't relevant anyway.
A good friend of mine was bitten severely by a dog that literally went crazy. The owner shot it dead after it bit six people who were over for a house party. It was very traumatic as everyone love the dog and it never bit anyone before.
I was paper boy growing up, while many dogs were great it was not abnormal to have a handful of very nasty and bad dogs on the route.
Having hundreds of dogs urinate on the sidewalk is no better than street people doing so.
These are real problems that should not be ignored.

Is it just me or are the people who claim to be in love with downtown the ones who are always complaining about it? Evil dogs, evil cars, evil homeless people... That's all part of city living, IMO. HOA is right, if you don't like it, go somewhere that doesn't have dogs. Unfortunately I think dogs exist everywhere man exists, so you'll have to go somewhere isolated.
We all have heard horror stories about people getting bitten by dogs. What you don't hear is that for every dog that bites there are thousands that don't. Next, are we going to point out that lady in France that had her face eaten by her dog? Some people drive bad. Are we going to ban cars? Some people raise their children poorly. Should we ban children?
The only person who has posted a sensible solution so far is fee c's. Tough punishment on owners who neglect to pick up after their dogs. Poop should get picked up, urine will wash away with hose or rain.
Done. NEXT TOPIC! |

| I understand small dogs in condos downtown - less than 25 pounds or so. But I don't get why people would want a lab or a pitbull or another large canine to live in such a small confine. Weren't many of these dogs bred for hunting or other outdoor activities? It seems those dogs need at least a dog run or a backyard to frolic in regularly. I am not a member of PETA, but it doesn't quite seem fair to the big doggie to do that. |
